Great Salt Lake Council has announced a Merit Badge Blast on August 26th and 26th or September 2nd and 3rd at Camp Tracy. The cost is $35 per scout and includes a Friday night cracker barrel and Saturday breakfast and lunch. The cost for adult leaders is $10. Scouts can earn up to 5 merit badges over the 2 day weekend. Orienteering Course
If you have a scout that is working on their requirements for 1st Class or is working on their Orienteering Merit Badge, you might be interested in an event put on by Orienteering Utah. They will have 1 mile course set up in near the Jordan River on Saturday, August 13 at 10:00 am. You can get more details of the event and a map to the location by visiting Orienteering Utah. My troop will be attending this event. We have several boys that need to fulfill the requirement for 1st class: Using a map and compass, complete an orienteering course that covers at least one mile and requires measuring the height and/or width of designated items (tree, tower, canyon, ditch, etc.).
