Orienteering Course

If you have a scout that is working on their requirements for 1st Class or is working on their Orienteering Merit Badge, you might be interested in an event put on by Orienteering Utah.  They will have 1 mile course set up in near the Jordan River on Saturday, August 13 at 10:00 am.  You can get more details of the event and a map to the location by visiting Orienteering Utah.  My troop will be attending this event.  We have several boys that need to fulfill the requirement for 1st class: Using a map and compass, complete an orienteering course that covers at least one mile and requires measuring the height and/or width of designated items (tree, tower, canyon, ditch, etc.).  We hope to see you all there.

The following Merit Badges will be available: American Labor, Animation, Archaeology, Art, Astronomy, Chemistry, Chess, Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in the Nation, Citizenship in the World, Communications, Composite Materials, Crime Prevention, Digital Technology, Disabilities Awareness, Emergency Preparedness, Energy & Engineering, Entrepreneurship, Environmental Science, First Aid, Game Design, Geocaching, Geology, Inventing, Landscape Architecture, Law, Mammal Study, Movie Making, Music, Nuclear Science, Photogrpahy, Personal Management, Radio, Scouting Heritage, Signs Signals and Codes, Space Exploration, Sports, Stamp Collecting, Sustainability, Traffic Safety, and Weather.

From this list, we have personally attended Composite Materials, Geocaching, Landscape Architecture, Radio, Space Exporation, Stamp Collecting, and Traffic Safety.  Space Exploration was defiantly a favorite because the boys got to make and launch a rocket.  Composite Materials was a close second.  In this class they got make a key chain and see a violin and skateboard made.  We also enjoyed Geocaching and Radio because they were very interactive classes.
